Well, the summer hiatus went a little longer than expected.  But the blog has been revamped (barring a few tweaks),  WordPress has been updated so we can actually write drafts again, and we are ready to go!  More soon…we promise!

In the meantime, here’s my cat on “his” Bertoia chair and vintage Union Label pillow.

Now that it’s officially summer, things will slow down here at NSV Corporate Headquarters.  I’ll still be buying (of course!) I’ll be spending much less time on this computer, which means fewer listings, less social media, and slower email responses.

Instead, I’ll be working on the gardens (vegetable and flower), training for a Triathlon, sitting on the sunporch, and doing as much of this as possible:

In the meantime, please check out NorthStar Vintage on eBay and Etsy for great warm weather vintage (Lilly Pulitzer, Ann Fogarty, Palm Beach….) and mid-century modern housewares (Mirro Medallion, Sascha Brastoff, Bovano, Blenko….).

More Local Inspiration: A Merry Sunday Knight

From my office window I can see my garden, with its lake stone edging – inspired by my friend Sunday’s garden.  In a way we have been collaborating for years (if by collaborating I mean buying loads stuff from each others yard sales).   I am thrilled that she now has a store on Etsy.  She has an amazing eye and I’m totally jealous of her sewing abilities.

The most amazing swimsuit ever.

It’s mink, lined with red satin.  Obviously NOT meant for actual swimming.  I wish I knew the story behind this!

Portland, Maine Inspiration: Wary Meyers

April 25th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

I live and work in Portland, Maine, considered one of America’s Most Livable Cities, the Best Place to Retire, and one of Outside Magazine’s Best Towns. One reason cited in every writeup is Portland’s very vibrant arts scene.  And inspiration is everywhere:   fashion on the street;  art openings and live musiclocal fashion blogs;  friends who make art or  live creatively;  and  fellow local vintage sellers.

So I’m blissfully obsessed with my friends Linda Wary and John Meyers’ new webstore, because I’ve been a fan (and a friend) for years, and because through their eyes I see that art is everywhere (like in the  font of  vintage grocery  store signs or the design a coffee maker).

Check out their shop and their awesome aesthetic sensibility by clicking on the “Larry’s Gulf King.”

Northstar Vintage vs. The Elements

My partner in shopping (my dad) and I went on big buying trip today. This is what we encountered.

Happily my father is an excellent driver, and I found a ton of great vintage clothing and housewares.  Stay tuned for a Lilli Ann suit, 30’s and 40’s dresses, vintage menswear, and SO much more.
