From my office window I can see my garden, with its lake stone edging – inspired by my friend Sunday’s garden. In a way we have been collaborating for years (if by collaborating I mean buying loads stuff from each others yard sales). I am thrilled that she now has a store on Etsy. She has an amazing eye and I’m totally jealous of her sewing abilities.

It’s mink, lined with red satin. Obviously NOT meant for actual swimming. I wish I knew the story behind this!

I live and work in Portland, Maine, considered one of America’s Most Livable Cities, the Best Place to Retire, and one of Outside Magazine’s Best Towns. One reason cited in every writeup is Portland’s very vibrant arts scene. And inspiration is everywhere: fashion on the street; art openings and live music; local fashion blogs; friends who make art or live creatively; and fellow local vintage sellers.
So I’m blissfully obsessed with my friends Linda Wary and John Meyers’ new webstore, because I’ve been a fan (and a friend) for years, and because through their eyes I see that art is everywhere (like in the font of vintage grocery store signs or the design a coffee maker).
Check out their shop and their awesome aesthetic sensibility by clicking on the “Larry’s Gulf King.”

My partner in shopping (my dad) and I went on big buying trip today. This is what we encountered.
Happily my father is an excellent driver, and I found a ton of great vintage clothing and housewares. Stay tuned for a Lilli Ann suit, 30’s and 40’s dresses, vintage menswear, and SO much more.

I’m almost tempted to get these tires so I can ride my R50 around my castle grounds.

Though we’re halfway through April, Maine is still full of grays and browns, with only a few hints of green.

Because I really need more social media in my life I’ve started a Tumblr blog.
Starting it up with bad/good outsider art and surrealist vintage ties.

The sale section of the NSV Etsy store was looking awfully empty, so I’ve marked down some items and moved them in. Sale items include vintage ties, belts, and mid-century modern housewares.
